Farewell rains!
18 Dec
Goodbye rainy season! Here in southern Vietnam, it seems that 2011′s extra-long wet season is finally behind us.
I am looking forward to:
-six months of near-constant sunshine and blue skies;
-no more fish escaping into our flooded sandpit;
-the area beneath the swingset not turning into a wading pool;
-the carport roof not flying off, and no trees falling nearby;
-less mosquitos and a lower risk of dengue fever;
-more barbeques and meals in the yard.
What I’m not looking forward to are:
-once-a-week all-day power cuts (Wednesdays?);
-sticky heat come April/May;
-more dust and smog; and
-the swimming pool becoming as warm as reheated soup.
I’ll also miss:
-the near-daily sight of my small kids peeling off their clothes and dancing in the rain;
-the deep, late-night croaks of the bullfrogs in the jungle that borders our yard;
-the thousands of thumb-tack-sized frogs that start life in our sandpit; and
-swimming in the rain
