While on a business trip to Hong Kong, my husband recently bought me a new laptop. Reviewing and deleting old photos, I came upon this one - taken in Hanoi in 1998. I’d just rolled out of bed on Luong Van Can (Toy Street) and stumbled over to Hang Quat (Ceremonial Fan Street) to buy fresh flowers.
Back then, cut flowers were ludicrously cheap - I had one boyfriend who would literally fill my house with thousands of flowers, which he’d buy at the 4am Tay Ho Flower Market on his way home from the bars. For all you girls out there who think that is - SIGH - so romantic, take it from much older and somewhat wiser me that you’re better off with a guy who’s not out boozing all night - and will buy you a much-needed laptop.
will booze only sometimes
